THAT ASSHOLE IS RIGHT BEHIND ME. ISN’T HE?!!!
The most important reason why we need the word “cis” in our lexicon is because it tells the thousands of young trans people out there right now who are struggling with their sense of identity, some of whom do not even realise yet that that is what they are doing, that there is something that you can be that is not what you were told you could be.
I did not know the word “cis” when I was 8 years old, imitating the handwriting of the girls in my class. I did not possess this language when I was 15, and attempting to put on makeup in secret without the guidance of my mother or my aunts, and copying the clothing styles of the girls in my high school. I did not have this language when I was 24, with hair down to my waist, wearing my girlfriend’s clothes to work. I did not have this language at 33 years old, before I proposed to my wife, or at 37, when we decided to have a child before we got any older.
I didn’t even know this language at 40, when I finally understood that the days of my life were not going to be many more in number if I did not attempt to find out if the feelings I had been feeling all my life would lead me to a better life.
But I certainly knew the word “transsexual”. I knew the words, “Renée Richards” and “Wendy Carlos”. I knew the word “freak”. I knew the word “mutilation”. I knew the words “liver damage”. I knew the words “shorter life span”. I knew the words “no children”. I knew the word “faggot”.
We need the word “cis”, because those children need to know that their choices aren’t limited, not anymore. Those children need to know that the alternative to “man” isn’t “freak” and the alternative to “woman” isn’t “abomination”. Those children need to know that “abnormal” means “statisically fewer in number”, not “unnatural”.
We need the word “cis”, because all the children of this Earth need to know that “cis” is just one thing you can be, and not what you necessarily are.”

ok, real talk, why are these dusty female redditors always using “female” as a noun? jfc
Maybe they are Ferengi? People who use female in this way always sound like aliens,

I am the night!
I stopped criticizing “MySpace angles” in profile shots the instant I realized the subtext to those criticisms was often “c’mon ladies, we want to know exactly what kind of product we’re getting.”
Wow, that’s a really good point - never thought of it quite that way before!
I didn’t either, until I read an “advice for your social media profile!” article by a guy saying “no close-up shots, no angled shots, no far-away shots, no complicated poses, at least one photo by yourself…” and it gradually became clear what he was looking for—a straight-on full-body image so he could judge exactly what your body shape is with no distractions.
It’s sort of what I’d expect when ordering a product online.
This is really true. And, also like their complaints about make up, they really hate the idea that women are aware that men are constantly judging us, and that we’re reacting to it. It’s disturbing to me that regardless of if they’d ever meet us, much less date us, these guys act as if every girl is a potential girlfriend and they need to make sure they really know what our bodies look like, and what our faces look like when they wake up next to us.
EVERYONE PLEASE. PAY ATTENTION. Especially if you’re Asian.
On January 30th, 2014, California Senate just passed SCA-5, a legislation that would repeal portions of California Proposition 209.
In condensed words, this bill allows schools to DISCRIMINATE AGAINST ASIANS.
To understand SCA 5, we have to remember what Prop. 209 is. In November 1996, Proposition 209 (also known as the California Civil Rights Initiative) amended the state constitution to prohibit state government institutions from discriminating against, or granting preferential treatment to, any individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin in the operation of public employment , public education, or public contracting. In the 18 years that Prop 209 has been in effect, California has become the most diversified state in the US.
State Senator Ed Hernandez, the one who introduced this bill, claims that due to Prop 209, Non-Asians have a harder time being admitted into state universities.
This bill will ALLOW THE STATE to use RACE, SEX, COLOR, ETHNICITY, OR NATIONAL ORIGIN as a consideration for accepting students or hiring employees. SCA-5 is out to punish Asian-Americans simply because we set the bar too high for getting into schools with high exam scores.
Asian-Americans often need test scores hundreds of points higher than applicants from other ethnic groups to have an equal chance of admission.
This bill goes against EQUAL PROTECTION, our 14th Amendment, as American citizens!
IF WE ALLOW THIS BILL TO PASS. WE HAVE STUNTED GENERATIONS FROM GROWING AND EXPANDING THEIR MINDS, THEIR HORIZONS OF UNDERSTANDING.
IF WE ALLOW THIS BULLSHIT BILL TO PASS, WHO’S NEXT UNTIL THE LAST RACE WHOM IS DEEMED “WORTHY” OF EDUCATION IS LEFT STANDING?!
Xudong Sun, president of American Anhui Association of Scholars and Students, told Xinhua that this legislation is racial and is a serious discrimination against Asian Americans.
He said right now at the University of California and state universities, Asian students account for 36 percent, but Bill SCA-5 would restrict Asians to 13 percent.
He said under-represented minority groups, like African Americans and Hispanics need protection, but such protection should not be made at the expense of Asian Americans.
